Warning: Don't go there - they are dishonest and cheating on foreign turists
The location of this place is very nice with a beautiful view of the port. The headwaiter at first seemed nice and very service minded with very good English skills. He strongly recommended us to try the fish of the day where the five of us could share the whole fish. They showed us the fish and told us that the weight of it was 1.8 kg and that the total price would be EUR 118. However, when getting the bill the price was EUR 180, the weight had increased to 2 kg and the headwaiter's English skills were all of a sudden rather poor. We complained about this price increase - up more than 50% - but did not insist that we would not pay. Our complaints were with little success. We got a reduction of EUR 20 after consultation between the headwaiter and the owner. The headwaither claimed that there had been a linguistic mistake. However, up until we recieved the bill there were now lingustic difficulties. In other words, we got the impression that they are rather dishonest when serving foreign turists.
Such a gem. Excellent food and service. Beautiful view of the water. Highly recommended.
I was at dinner at a very intense moment; they found me a table at the last moment as if I were an old friend, we were treated very well, sublime food, interesting cellar and really good prices in relation to the food, service and location. I will return as soon as possible
Very good fish dishes and insuperable view on the sea
Extraordinary location on the port with private mooring. Simple but comfortable rooms. The super thing is the kindness of the staff and the location
We spent a wonderful week at Gennarino a mare. The location is fantastic, the room is a wedding favor, it's not very large but perfect, with everything you need and a view you won't forget. Thanks to Antonella and her colleagues for their kindness, availability and advice. We felt pampered. The breakfasts sitting next to the sea are unforgettable.
.... and so, once the restrictions of Covid were over, we finally returned to the Gennarino a Mare, rediscovering the perfection as always, even more appreciated considering the enormous difficulties that the hotel sector had to face.
"Gennarino" is a unique place, and not only in Ponza.
Its dimensions, very different from those of chain hotels, make you feel at home, something to which the special friendliness of all the staff, authentic and not staged, and the vigilant and discreet presence of the owner, Mr., contribute greatly. Mrs Domitilla, who has kept this jewel perfect in every sense for a lifetime, so much so that - I believe - she should be taken as an example by young hoteliers.
The location is fantastic, secluded enough to be a "buen retreat", but a stone's throw (2) from the center of the boutiques, cafes, and boat rental shops (the latter are essential for sea lovers).
The rooms all have a sea view, a good part with a breathtaking view of the village and the coast of Ponza, up to the islet of Zannone. The decor is marine/refined with beautiful floors and tiles, neat and cheerful furniture, all in perfect condition, thanks to the evident love of the property and also to the care of the staff on the floors.
But the most beautiful point of "Gennarino" is the splendid "terrace" on stilts, all open to the sea, and painted white, so much so that it seems like being in Florida or New England, with a small appendage where you can stay for hours on the red and white sofas, admiring the enchanting seascape; and with the addition (this truly exceptional) of a private pier where the Hotel's customers-sailors dock.
Having breakfast or lunch on the terrace is simply magical. And dining there, with the view of the town illuminated by hundreds of fairy lights, is truly romantic. The Chef must be applauded for his excellent cuisine, with delicious dishes and generous portions.
Sardinia, Puglia, Maldives, Caribbean, etc........ But have you ever been to Ponza, a true pearl of the Mediterranean, miraculously authentic and picturesque, with a crystal sea and many, many coves for swimming away from the crowds of holidaymakers.
All just a stone's throw from Rome or Naples, with a constant coming and going of ferries and hydrofoils.
I can't wait to go back....
Thanks "Gennarino"!
We have just returned from Ponza where we stayed in this delightful house. Calling it a hotel would seem reductive to me. Splendid view, small but well-kept rooms, very friendly and welcoming staff. Excellent restaurant.
